  • New automation sandbox game Icaria fuses Minecraft and Factorio together

New automation sandbox game Icaria fuses Minecraft and Factorio together

Back in the early heyday of Minecraft, what really kept me coming back were the mods that dramatically opened up the sandbox game’s building potential. Tekkit, and later Feed the Beast, introduced me to a world of pipe networks and automation long before I ever got into the likes of Satisfactory and Factorio. Now, new indie game Icaria combines the iconic blocky look of Minecraft with the ability to lay out intricate factory networks and program helpers to handle all your tasks, and it’s out now on Steam with a playable demo.

Much like Minecraft, starting a new game of Icaria drops you into a small section of a procedurally generated alien world, although developer Blindsight Games’ creations are more alien in nature than those of Mojang. From your initial spawn, you’ll gradually explore outwards, building out a radio network to give you a better perspective of the world around you.

Like all the best sandbox games, you must gather materials to start constructing, upgrading, and expanding your base, but your labor is just the beginning. Described by Blindsight as a “single-player colony builder,” Icaria really comes into its own as you learn to automate your factories and program robotic helpers. Anything you can do yourself can also be accomplished by your workers, and the bigger your base grows, the more important that becomes.

    YouTube Thumbnail

Using a clean set of visual tools to make programming approachable to anyone, and ways to quickly share your scripts with other players, you’ll be able to set up your workers and facilities to act exactly how you wish. Terraform the landscape, lay down power networks, assign trucks to transport materials across your ever-expanding colony, and unlock more ways to engage with the world.

Icaria is out now on Steam in early access, with a 15% launch discount meaning you’ll pay $21.24 / £17.84 if you buy it by Monday May 12. There’s also a free demo you can download and try before you commit. Blindsight Games is aiming for the early access period to last for “around a year,” but says it will extend that “if that seems like the best way to deliver a satisfying and complete game.”

Can’t get enough construction in your day? Here are the best building games on PC. If it’s the organization aspects that appeal most, we’ve picked out the best management games to play in 2025 as well.

  • HoYoverse finally announces Honkai Star Rail x Fate release date with 5-star Archer and 5-star Saber – plus Archer is free

HoYoverse finally announces Honkai Star Rail x Fate release date with 5-star Archer and 5-star Saber – plus Archer is free

HoYoverse finally announced the Honkai Star Rail x Fate collaboration release date during the second HSR concert, including details about which characters will join the space game’s roster. HSR x Fate kicks off on July 11, 2025, in an event called Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail, and it adds two new 5-star characters from the Fate series to HSR’s list of playable characters.

One of them is Saber, a 5-star Destruction character with wind as her element. Saber, aka Artoria Pendragon, is one of Fate’s main characters and first debuted in 2004’s Fate/Stay Night. Saber will run for the usual length of time in a limited event banner. The second Fate character in HSR is Archer, another long-time favorite. Archer is a 5-star Hunt character with quantum as his element, and anyone who logs into Honkai Star Rail during Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail will get him for free.

HoYoverse said the free Archer giveaway will last through the end of Honkai Star Rail 3.6. Based on the game’s current update calendar, that’d be sometime in November 2025. Assuming the free Archer event is like the time HoYoverse gave Dr Ratio away, you’ll probably only need to be at the story’s beginning, at the point where you unlock the warp function.

Saber will have “exciting” interactions with the Trailblaze crew during the event’s associated story missions. Fate writer Kinoko Nasu penned the crossover event’s story, and artist Takashi Takeuchi created the Honkai Star Rail versions of Archer and Saber.

HoYoverse also teased a new Honkai game during the concert, though had no further information to share at the time.

If you’re just tuning in for Honkai Star Rail’s second anniversary, make sure to grab your free Ruan Mei or Luocha while the event lasts. Check out our HSR codes page for some freebies, too.

  • Volleyball Ascended Abilities Tier List and Guide [UPD]

Volleyball Ascended Abilities Tier List and Guide [UPD]

Abilities in Volleyball Ascended add a unique layer of strategy and excitement to every match. They allow players to pull off unexpected moves, shift momentum, and outsmart opponents in creative ways. From teleporting sets to directional spikes, each Ability offers a distinct tactical edge. Mastering these powers can be the difference between a good play and a game-changing moment. So follow along with our Volleyball Ascended Abilities tier list and guide to learn how.

    Valleyball Ascended Tier List

In the tier list above, we ranked all Abilities in Volleyball Ascended based on how good they are in the current meta. In general, rarer Abilities are stronger. However, as surprising as it may be, a Rare Ability is one of the strongest Abilities in Volleyball Ascended, and a Rival Ability is one of the weaker ones. After extensive testing, I found out that teleporting back with Waypoint is virtually useless compared to the increased team movement speed given by Team Synergy.

    Volleyball Ascended Abilities List

Below is a complete and detailed list of all Abilities in Volleyball Ascended, sorted by their position on the tier list:

    Ability Rarity Description Tier
Direct Set Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Legend When activated, your next set within 8 seconds will automatically teleport to the nearest teammate within 35 studs. If no teammate is within range, the set will instead go directly above you.
    + Amazing for any playstyle.
+ Easy points when coordinating with your team.
    S
Team Synergy Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Rare When activated, your whole team gains a burst of movement speed for 5 seconds.
+ A Universal Ability that is amazing for any situation.
+ Best defensive Ability in the game.
+ It might as well be of Rival rarity or even higher.
    S
Super Spike Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Rival When activated, your next Spike within 8 seconds has significantly increased power.
+ Amazing for an offensive playstyle.
    S
Setter Dump Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Rival When activated, your next set within 8 seconds will be dumped in the direction you are tilting, allowing for quick and unexpected plays.
+ Great for surprising the opponents.
    A
Spike Seer Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Epic Passively see all landing spots of spikes for both teams.
+ Great for controlling gameplay and learning.
    A
Stealth Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Epic When activated, you become invisible to all enemies for 0.6 Seconds.
    + Great for surprise Spikes.
    A
Curve Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Uncommon When activated, your next Spike within 8 seconds will curve to the side.
    + Useful in all playstyles.
    A
Stealth Spike Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Rare When activated, your next Spike within 8 seconds will become invisible for a split second.
    + Great against experienced players.
    B
Waypoint Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Rival When activated, mark your current location. After 10 seconds, teleport back to it.
Man, this Ability is just sad.
Very rarely useful and only in niche situations.
It is a Rival rarity Ability, but it might as well be a Rare or Uncommon.
    B
Phantom Set Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Rare When activated, your next set within 8 seconds will create a mirage ball.
+ Good when trying to confuse enemies.
    B
Iron Wall Ability from the Volleyball Ascended Roblox Experience Common When activated, increase your Block radius by 30% for 0.75 Seconds.
A very basic Ability with extremely limited use.
    C

A good starting Ability in Volleyball Ascended would be Super Spike, if you can get it, or Spike Seer, as it allows you to see where Spikes will land. Seeing where they land means you can quickly learn how people play and develop a sense of where opponents usually aim.

How to get Abilities in Volleyball Ascended

If you want to get one of the Abilities from our tier list in Volleyball Ascended, you first need to collect enough Yen. You can collect them by playing or using codes from our Volleyball Ascended Codes page. Once you have 3980 Yen, you will be able to buy an Abilities Pack from the store. When you open it, you will get a random Ability from the list above. Some of the better Abilities have a lower chance of dropping, so make sure you have enough Yen to Reroll a few times until you get the one you’re looking for.

And that is all for my Volleyball Ascended Abilities tier list and guide. Check out more Roblox-related stuff on our Roblox Page.

  • Brutal soulslike ARPG No Rest for the Wicked buffs loot drops as reviews plummet

Brutal soulslike ARPG No Rest for the Wicked buffs loot drops as reviews plummet

As Grinding Gear Games buffs its unforgiving loot drops in Path of Exile 2, fellow ARPG No Rest for the Wicked is getting similar treatment from developer Moon Studios. Several months in the making, new NRFTW update The Breach introduces more zones, weapon types, boss fights, and endgame systems to the soulslike spin on Diablo. However, it might have been a little too vicious – with the arrival of The Breach, the game’s recent Steam reviews have fallen dramatically to just 43% positive. In an attempt to course correct, Moon Studios delivers a first major hotfix to make overcoming the hordes more manageable.

The Breach has dramatically expanded No Rest for the Wicked, but its focus on challenging encounters has left players complaining that fights felt too long and laborious, gear upgrades are too rare, and the overall grind is too slow. “We’ve seen your feedback roll in, and we want you to know we hear you,” the RPG‘s developer writes at the top of the patch notes for its new hotfix. “Not everything landed the way we hoped, and that’s on us.”

    YouTube Thumbnail

To start with, the new hotfix increases the experience you earn from defeating enemies, including bosses, and there’s no longer a cap on the amount of XP that overcoming high-level enemies can award. The parry window on enemy attacks has been widened, and there are more invincibility frames for the medium roll. The focus cost of firing arrows is “significantly reduced,” and has also been lowered for the Illuminate and Return runes. The Polished Caretaker boss gets a rebalance, while attacks from the Bonded Witch, Nith Screamer, and Shackled Brute can now be interrupted.

The price of gear upgrades has been reduced to one-third of what it was, and repairs are now a little cheaper. Changes to the gear score system will make it more likely that “a really nice item drops for you every once in a while.” You’ll find less plagued gear, but more herbs, fallen embers, weapon shards, and ore veins. Both Filmore and Whittacker have additional shop inventory (including two extra weapons for the former to increase early-game variety), and you can craft the Cleric armor set directly.

Moon Studios has also made some additional UI improvements, including an overhaul to the bounties and challenges screen that should make it clearer to sort them and judge the expected difficulty of each one. The backstab indicator will now appear (and disappear) more quickly, giving you a clearer indication of when you can take advantage of an opening.

No Rest For The Wicked - A player rides a hanging block across a burning mine.

No Rest For The Wicked: The Breach Hotfix 1 is out now. You can look through the patch notes courtesy of Moon Studios for a full list of bug fixes and tweaks. “Thank you for sticking with us,” the developer says. “We hope these fixes make your time with No Rest for the Wicked better. Please continue to share your feedback with our team. We are fully committed to delivering an amazing experience, and, with your help, we will.”

    May 29

    • You finally get to use a Star Destroyer in Fortnite during the Galactic Battle season. A portal to the control room will spawn in every match. In the control room, you take control of the turbolaser and obliterate your enemies.

    June 7

    • This is the final showdown of the season and will include an in-game narrative live event where you go up against Emperor Palpatine. This could likely be followed by a downtime, leading into the new season.

Epic Games announcing the roadmap for Fortnite Chapter Six, Season Three Galactic Battle so early makes it unlikely that it will be extended or the schedule will change. We’ll be sure to update this page with more information if they announce any changes.

  • Sackboy has been removed from the PlayStation Productions intro sequence, so much for job sack-urity

Sackboy has been removed from the PlayStation Productions intro sequence, so much for job sack-urity

It’s rough out there, even for video game characters. It looks like Sackboy, from the beloved Little Big Planet series of games, has been removed from the PlayStation Productions intro sequence. This was discovered by Twitter user Radec who sat down to watch the Until Dawn movie, a horrific start to an already shocking movie.

Sackboy has been in a bit of a rough spell as of late, it’s safe to say. Media Molecule was hit by layoffs in late 2023, while Little Big Planet 3 had its servers turned off indefinitely last year, with years of community-created levels gone with the wind.

As such, Sackboy isn’t the star of the office like he used to be. A newer generation of Sony stars are in the office, and old man Sack has sort of been pushed to a desk in the corner of the room. With his face off the PlayStation Productions intro, it’s as if he’s been removed from the office entirely. His stuff in a cardboard box as he waits for a taxi. Or maybe it’s all in a big sack, who knows.

Upon hearing the news, folks were obviously upset. There’s a range of responses that sum up the final nail in Sackboy’s career coffin rather well, from usersr on Twitter called ‘LittleBigPlanet™ for the Playstation®3’ or what have you. I’d like to personally jump in here to say don’t lose hope just yet. Instead, you should wait to see if Sackboy gets dug up for an Adi Shankar adaptation.

Are you sad about Sackboy being thrown out into the street like this? I am. Let us know below, as well as whether you think Sackboy will every come back!

  • Murderbot’s TV adaption will feature major changes. I talked to the creators about how those decisions were made

Murderbot’s TV adaption will feature major changes. I talked to the creators about how those decisions were made

The Murderbot Diaries, Martha Wells’ popular series of darkly comedic science-fiction books, are coming to Apple TV+ in the form of a new series starring Alexander Skarsgård and created/written/directed by Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz. As with any adaptation, however, some pretty big changes are being made, and after watching the series, I wanted to know why. So when I got the chance to ask the creators, I did just that.

For anyone who has read the first Murderbot novella, All Systems Red, you know that the book is both short and yet somehow packed full of wonderful story moments and character traits. The story of Murderbot, a hacked rogue security bot who just wants to be left alone to watch TV shows but ends up being a hero, should fit perfectly into the length for a TV series or film, leading to the idea that the Weitz brothers had the opposite challenge of most adaptations. Whereas most require changes by cutting down the storyline, Murderbot needed fleshing out. Of course, any of those changes went through Wells first, and it was important to respect the source material.

“I think everything that’s in the book is in the show basically,” explained Paul Weitz. “We early on got in touch with Martha Wells kind of as fans and, so there are things that are added to the story, sort of like filling in the cracks, but anytime that we had an idea like that, we would call up Martha and say, ‘Hey, here’s what we’re thinking of, what do you think?’ And she’d either say, ‘Oh, that’s a cool idea’ or ‘Well, maybe think about this instead. That was a huge, huge relief.

“I think that part of the thing for us was never feeling like we were like we were padding stuff,” he continued as he explained why they made the changes they did.

To be clear, the series follows the first book’s story as a whole and does an incredible job adapting the tone and themes of the first novella, but there are a few major key moments that are different. This includes a very sudden and violent moment that’s a major change from the story. The Weitzs said they made such a big, impactful change to help maintain the tone of the books.

“Well, one thing that Alexander was very conscious of, even more so in a way than we were, was that you don’t want things to thaw completely,” Chris Weitz said when discussing the change. “Possibly ever, but even to appear to thaw until the very end. So I think at the very point at which everybody’s thinking, ‘Oh, it might not want to look at us or give us a hug, but it’s part of the team.’ Murderbot does something which reminds everyone that it’s a being that has done violence and that that’s part of their experience and their DNA.”

It wasn’t just the storyline of Murderbot that needed to be tweaked, however. The directors felt they should dive deeper into the lives of the rest of the characters, with particular attention given to fleshing out Garathin, who is played by David Dastmalchian.

“Part of it, in a way, was looking at the characters in the book, which might not have much said about them, and being like, ‘OK, these people exist, so why are they behaving this way? Why are they doing this?’” explained Paul Weitz.

“Doing a lot of work on that,” Chris Weitz commented. “Like, Garathin has a backstory in this, but we checked with Martha whether that was cool, and we also checked with David (Dastmalchian) whether that was cool because it’s trading on a little of his personal, you know, his personal experience. Just playing with the characters with utter respect and belief that they actually exist. (The characters) act in worthy ways, but they have neuroses, they have idiosyncrasies, and that was part of the interest (making changes).”

Murderbot will premiere on Apple TV+ on May 16.

  • Steam Deck gamers are playing Oblivion Remastered in droves, despite controversy

Steam Deck gamers are playing Oblivion Remastered in droves, despite controversy

As a new month dawns, we’re taking a look at the most played Steam Deck games for April 2025, and it’s surprising to see Oblivion Remastered storm up the charts despite having become a bit of a meme for its poor performance. In the monthly data, however, Balatro still reigns supreme.

Each month, it’s fun to look at which games are performing well on the best handheld gaming PC and look for any surprises. The chart of top played games on Steam Deck lists, quite simply, the games with the most hours played from one to 100, and there are some big debuts in this month’s list.

In April, while it’s no great surprise to see indie games such as Schedule 1 and R.E.P.O continue to climb the rankings, the inclusion of Oblivion Remastered is somewhat puzzling. This is because of the ongoing performance issues affecting the game on the Steam Deck. It’s even become a meme, with players posting to Reddit saying they’ve finally got Oblivion to run well on the Deck, before posting a screenshot of the original game.

While players were always going to try to get Oblivion Remastered running on the Steam Deck, the controversy comes from Valve’s decision to give it a Verified rating, despite it failing on the core criteria that a game needs to earn this status.

We already tested the best Oblivion Remastered settings and found that, on the Steam Deck, you need to at least consider changing the upscaling method, as well as the level of upscaling from balanced to performance. This crucial change alone should relegate Oblivion to a Playable rating, but this hasn’t happened.

Despite the Oblivion Remastered system requirements suggesting that the game would be difficult for the Steam Deck to run, players are clearly just pushing through and running the game however they see fit. Given that the game only released late in the month, the fact that it’s already the number two game on Steam Deck is quite the achievement. It didn’t have quite enough plays to dethrone Balatro for the monthly stats, but it is currently the most played game over the last week.

Other notable inclusions on this month’s top-played list are Clair Obscur Expedition 33 at 26, a game that launched as Unsupported but has already been upgraded to Playable. The Last of Us Part 2 has debuted at 41 while the first game has reappeared at 60, likely due to renewed interest thanks to season two of the TV show.

Finally, there was another strong indie debut in the list as Blue Prince, the intriguing roguelike puzzle game, debuted at 16 for the monthly list, although it did appear inside the top 10 briefly during its release week.
