Adventure Effects are a relatively new introduction to the world of Pokémon GO, first popping up in Pokémon GO Tour: Sinnoh with the Origin Formes for Dialga and Palkia. These special moves can help with everything from spawn rates to capture chance.
To help you make the most out of these powers, I’ve pulled together each of the Pokémon with an Adventure Effect in the list below, detailing what each one can offer you and how you can trigger it while exploring the world.
The Escapist recaps
- There are nine Adventure Effects currently in Pokémon GO, each offering a variety of buffs and bonuses for players to use
- Adventure Effects are only temporary, usually lasting six or 10 minutes, but they can be extended by spending more resources
- Each Pokémon must have the relevant Charged Attack to be able to access the Adventure Effect in question
- The best Adventure Effects vary depending on your desired outcome, but I’d recommend looking at Ice Burn and Freeze Shock as a newer player
Complete Pokémon GO Adventure Effect list
There are currently nine Adventure Effects to experiment with in Pokémon GO, each offering a unique bonus.
Accessing them requires your Pokémon to have a particular move e.g. a Black Kyurem without the Charged Attack Glaciate will not be able to utilize the Freeze Shock Adventure Effect.
At the time of writing, every Adventure Effect in Pokémon GO is initially limited to either six or 10 minutes, but they can all be extended by spending more Stardust and Candy.
Roar of Time (Origin Forme Dialga)

Origin Forme Dialga was one of the first ‘mons in Pokémon GO to offer an Adventure Effect, introducing Roar of Time into the game. It’s decently useful, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best entry in the list by any means.
Roar of Time pauses the timer of Lucky Eggs, Star Pieces, and Incense for six minutes, letting you get more use out of these items. Both regular Incense and Daily Adventure Incense are included.
To get Roar of Time, you’ll need to have an Origin Forme Dialga with the Charged Attack Roar of Time, along with 5,000 Stardust and five Dialga Candy.
Spacial Rend (Origin Forme Palkia)

Origin Forme Palkia provides the Adventure Effect Spacial Rend, which I’d class as slightly more valuable than its blue counterpart.
Spacial Rend extends the distance that you can find wild Pokémon in for 10 minutes. Essentially, it opens up the map further, allowing you to catch more ‘mons without having to travel too far, making it a nice Adventure Effect for players who struggle finding spawns.
To get this Adventure Effect, you’ll need to make sure that your Origin Forme Palkia has the Spacial Rend Charged Attack. Additionally, you’ll need 5,000 Stardust and five Palkia Candy.
Freeze Shock (Black Kyurem)

Black Kyurem offers the Adventure Effect Freeze Shock, which stops wild critters from moving for 10 minutes. This makes them a lot easier to catch.
To grab the Freeze Shock Adventure Effect, you’ll need to make sure that your Black Kyurem has the Charged Attack Glaciate. Additionally, activating this move will cost you 5,000 Stardust and five Kyurem Candy.
Ice Burn (White Kyurem)

Ice Burn is the best Adventure Effect for players who struggle with hitting Great or Excellent throws when catching Pokémon. It slows the catch circle down considerably, making it easier to land the Poké Ball in the desired spot for the next 10 minutes.
The requirements for this Adventure Effect are the same as the previous entry – Glaciate, 5,000 Stardust, and five Kyurem Candy.
Sunsteel Strike (Dusk Mane Necrozma)

While I’m a huge fan of Dusk Mane Necrozma and the wicked name that this Adventure Effect has, it’s hard to get too excited about Sunsteel Strike. For ten minutes, it makes daytime spawns appear more regularly around you.
To use Sunsteel Strike, your Dusk Mane Necrozma must have the Charged Attack of the same name. You’ll also need 3,000 Stardust and three Necrozma Candy.
Moongeist Beam (Dawn Wings Necrozma)

Moongeist Beam is a useful Adventure Effect that can help you fill in the gaps in your collection. While active, it attracts nighttime spawns to your location for 10 minutes.
Much like the previous entry, you’ll need the titular Charged Attack (Moongeist Beam) along with 3,000 Stardust and three Necrozma Candy.
Behemoth Bash (Crowned Shield Zamazenta)

Both of the Crowned Legendaries have valuable Adventure Effects for players who enjoy raiding or taking part in Max Battles.
Crowned Shield Zamazenta has the Behemoth Bash Adventure Effect, which applies a hefty defense buff in Raids and Max Battles for six minutes.
To get this Adventure Effect, you’ll need to ensure your Crowned Shield Zamzenta has the Charged Attack Behemoth Bash, which pops up when it changes form. You will also need 5,000 Stardust and five Zamazenta Candy.
Behemoth Blade (Crowned Sword Zacian)

The Adventure Effect Behemoth Blade is the mirror of Behemoth Bash, providing an attack boost in Raids and Max Battles for six minutes.
To get this, your Crowned Sword Zacian will need the Behemoth Blade Charged Attack, accessible by changing into the Crowned form, while you’ll need 5,000 Stardust and five Zacian Candy.
Dynamax Cannon (Eternatus)

Dynamax Cannon is a Max Battle-exclusive Adventure Effect, providing a level boost to Max Moves for ten minutes.
Level one Max Moves will become level two and so on, while level three Max Moves will bypass the usual level cap and go to level four.
To get Dynamax Cannon, you’ll need an Eternatus with the Charged Attack Dynamax Cannon. You’ll also need 30 Eternatus Candy and 5,000 Stardust, with the Candy requirement making it the most expensive Adventure Effect currently in the game.
Pokémon GO has nine Adventure Effects available at the time of writing, providing powerful, time-gated boosts to help players enhance their exploration experience. The impact of these moves varies, helping with everything from catching Pokémon to dealing more damage in a Max Battle.
Ask The Escapist
No, Adventure Effects are temporary buffs that will be removed after a set amount of time while playing Pokémon GO.
Deciding the best Adventure Effect in Pokémon GO will depend on your desired outcome. Roar of Time is useful for daily exploration, Freeze Shock and Ice Burn are great for newer players, and Moongeist Beam is particularly valuable for collectors.
The Pokémon that knows Dynamax Cannon, Eternatus, will be making its debut in Pokémon GO with the Dark Skies week, leading up to Max Finale.
