Battlefield 6 beta guide and how to play early

When is the Battlefield 6 beta? As well as unveiling some explosive multiplayer gameplay, the Battlefield 6 beta dates have also been revealed by EA. Before it launches later this year, everyone will get a couple of opportunities to give Battlefield 6 a spin, and there’s some early access on offer for some players as well.

The Battlefield 6 release date isn’t that far away now, with the highly anticipated shooter dropping in October. Promising a multiplayer experience stuffed with classic modes, a flexible approach to classes, and a new environmental destruction system, it could genuinely challenge this year’s new Call of Duty game, Black Ops 7. In the build-up to launch, you’ll be able to try Battlefield 6 for free thanks to two open betas, and they’re just around the corner.

    Battlefield 6 beta dates

The first Battlefield 6 beta weekend will run between Thursday, August 7, and Sunday, 10 August. The first two days will require early access privileges, but the final two days will be completely open for all players.

The second Battlefield 6 beta weekend starts on Thursday, August 14, and wraps up on Sunday, August 17. There is no early access period for this one – it’ll be open to all for the entire duration.

Both beta weekends will be accessible for players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

How to get Battlefield 6 beta early access

There are two different ways to get early access for the first Battlefield 6 beta weekend – being a Battlefield Labs participant, or through Twitch Drops.

Those who have already been testing the game through the Battlefield Labs initiative will be granted instant access to the first beta weekend. If you weren’t a playtester, your only other port of call is to watch partnered streamers on Twitch to earn early access privileges through Battlefield 6 Twitch Drops.

How to pre-load the Battlefield 6 beta

If you managed to snag yourself a code for the upcoming closed beta, you can pre-load the game from August 4 to save yourself any faff on the day it goes live. To pre-load the Battlefield 6 beta, you must first ensure that your account is correctly linked to your platform of choice using this link.

Once you’re linked, search for ‘Battlefield 6 Open Beta’ in the search bar of your client (EA App, for instance). Once you have located the beta version of BF6, you should be able to download it and be 100% ready for action once the 7th rolls by.

If you can’t wait for the beta to arrive, get a feel of how things are shaping up with our hands-on Battlefield 6 preview. Alternatively, go and play some of the older entries – they’re some of the best FPS games ever made.

  • The final Dune Awakening beta before launch is now live, as thousands flock to the sands to mine iron and stab each other

The final Dune Awakening beta before launch is now live, as thousands flock to the sands to mine iron and stab each other

The final Dune Awakening beta is now live, which will allow thousands of fresh-faced players to hop into Funcom’s open world survival MMO for the first time. This beta, which is running over the weekend, will cover the first two major zones of the game, giving folks a peek at the early game experience.

The beta, announced following the release date of the game being pushed back to June 10, is running a few days before the previous date of May 15. A balm to those still burned by the delay, and the last opportunity people will get to check out the game for free.

This is also the first time your average gamer will get a chance to learn about the game. Our own preview of the early game went live last month, and was largely positive overall. However this preview – which covers the same scope of content that’ll be available in this weekend’s beta – still left us with many questions on what the game will ultimately be building up to in its end-game – a portion that has been discussed by the team, but not shown off to a great extent.

In order to get into this beta, players will have to either wishlist the game on Steam and wait for access to be sent their way via email, or get access via developer giveaways. Access has already been handed out to folks, but it’s not out of the question that more people will be let in over the weekend. So keep an eye out if you’re keen to give it a try, and maybe throw a wishlist on the game for a chance. You never know, you may get lucky!

Are you going to try the game out this weekend? Let us know below, as well as whether or not you’re excited for Dune Awakening!

  • Dune Awakening is getting a “large scale” beta weekend, the last chance to taste the spice before the game launches

Dune Awakening is getting a “large scale” beta weekend, the last chance to taste the spice before the game launches

Are you tired of hearing or reading about Dune Awakening without actually being able to play it? Well, hopefully you’re not tired of reading about it… Either way, it turns out you’ll be able to play the game soon, courtesy of a free open beta weekend coming on May 9, and concluding on May 12.

To get access, you’ll need to either wishlist the game prior to May 9 for a chance to play, or grab one of the “thousands” of beta codes given out by the team during the weekend. So, it’s open, but only to those lucky enough to gain access. Semi-open. The door left somewhat ajar.

This beta just so happens to be a few days prior to the original release date of May 15, which was pushed back due to a delay so the team at Funcom could “cook” a little and make sure everything is polished and ready for the full release.

Players will be able to access the first two regions, which if thoroughly explored should make up the first 20-ish hours of the game. That means you’ll be able to explore a few Research Facilities, try out the early abilities for various classes, and a little bit of PvP in ship crash sites. A good taster of the experience. If you’d like our experience, we’ve got a new preview for Dune Awakening out today that covers this same slice of the overall experience.
