  • After many bet against it, a PS5 State of Play is coming tomorrow with over 40 minutes of game reveals

After many bet against it, a PS5 State of Play is coming tomorrow with over 40 minutes of game reveals

Sony has officially announced that it’s going to be hosting an event in June after all. It’s going to be of the State of Play variety, and it will be airing live tomorrow. Sony has, in recent years, made a habit of announcing those livestreams one or two days before the event’s scheduled date.

This June’s State of Play is no different, and it looks like it won’t be heavy on first-party games.

This week’s State of Play will be live tomorrow, June 4 at 2pm PT, 5pm ET, 10pm UK. In the announcement blog post, Sony said we can expect “news and updates” on games coming to PS5.

“The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe,” the blog post adds, which really doesn’t tell us much. It is clear, however, that this won’t be a first-party-focused show, though it is curious that Sony elected not to use the terms ‘first’ or ‘third-party’ in the announcement.

In any case, this State of Play is going to a little beefy, clocking in at over 40-minutes-long. As always, you’ll be able to watch it live on PlayStation’s official Twitch, and YouTube channels.

This week is going to be very busy with events and game reveals. Summer Game Fest’s live opening show is scheduled for Friday, June 6, and the first edition of IO Interactive’s IOI Showcase is taking place just a couple of hours later on the same day.

Then, on Sunday, June 8, Xbox will take its turn to host its own showcase, which will be followed by a dedicated The Outer Worlds 2 direct, so it’s all popping off. EA and Ubisoft are seemingly going to sit this one out, but we wouldn’t bet against some of their rumoured and in-development games showing up at one (or more) of these shows.

  • Embracer Group says it’ll put out 76 different games in the coming year, as it ditches friends for a fellowship and spins off Goat Sim publisher Coffee Stain

Embracer Group says it’ll put out 76 different games in the coming year, as it ditches friends for a fellowship and spins off Goat Sim publisher Coffee Stain

Damn, the nice little friendship thing Embracer Group had decided to morph into after earning the ire of lots of folks by going hard on the layoffs, closures and sales is no more.

The company’s decided to ditch the “and friends” tag it had given to different bits of its business, and form a fellowship, as it does yet more corporate shuffling around. It does also plan to actually release some more games.

As announced by Embracer, the bit of previously dubbed Middle-Earth and Friends will now be known as Fellowship Entertainment. As you might have guessed, that’s the part that looks after The Lord of the Rings, as well as housing the studios behind likes of Kingdom Come Deliverance, Tomb Raider, the Metro series, and Dead Island.

With Asmodee, the second of the three bits Embracer divided itself into last year, having spun off from the company as of February this year, it’s the turn of the third bit formerly known as Coffee Stain & Friends to do the same. Now named Coffee Stain Group, the subsidiary that includes the dev teams behind the likes of Deep Rock Galactic, Valheim and Goat Simulator is being released into the economic wild as a separately stock market-listed company.

“The games industry is more competitive than ever, but also more rewarding if you do things right, and we believe this move gives us the clarity and control to navigate the landscape better on our own terms,” Coffee Stain Group CEO Anton Westbergh said, “We can now focus even more on what we do best—supporting our developers, staying close to our communities, and building an even brighter future for Coffee Stain.”

Right, that’s enough on the corporate shuffling of people’s livelihoods. In the financial results it’s published alongside this spin-off announcement, Embracer says that it’s got “76 different games” it plans to release in the coming financial year. There’ll be “a mix of new IPs, sequels, and remasters”, including Killing Floor 3 and the recently delayed Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, with Embracer expecting the latter to “drive notable revenues but to have lower margins due to shared economics with several other partners”.

Another as of yet unannounced AAA game that Embracer things will have “financial dynamics more similar to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2” is also in the works, but the company reckons it’ll have to be pushed back to the 2026/27 financial year to allow for more “polish”

The rest of the lineup for the upcoming is being filled by the likes of Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, Metal Eden, and “the next SpongeBob SquarePants game”. Spongebob Squarepants tries to get to the Bikini Bottom of where Embracer’s friends have gone, maybe?

  • Nier’s 2B is coming to The First Descendant, and is exactly what you think it is

Nier’s 2B is coming to The First Descendant, and is exactly what you think it is

Even if you’ve never touched a Nier game, I’d wager that you know exactly who 2B is. The iconic android has made myriad appearances in other games since Platinum released Nier: Automata in 2017, and the studio is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. She’s already in Final Fantasy 14, Fall Guys, PUBG, Rainbow Six Siege, and a rhythm game excellently titled D4DJ Groovy Mix. Now, 2B is coming to The First Descendant.

I’ll admit, I’m not entirely surprised to know that 2B is on her way to The First Descendant. Nier: Automata is the perfect fit for Nexon’s live-service looter shooter – it felt like it was just a matter of time. Still, the free Steam game has quite an event on the way, as Nexon details at TFD’s Pax East panel.

“The community has been requesting this IP continuously, and we believe that it will match well with The First Descendant,” TFD producer Beomjun Lee says. “Although we’ve only shown some key images today, we will be sharing more details with a trailer showcasing our collaboration.”

“Unfortunately, the Nier: Automata collaboration will focus on decorations as we are in the process of solidifying the substance of our game. We decided to invest more in the content of Season 3 rather than other content related to the collaboration. However, in addition to the 2B and A2 outfits, we have prepared a damaged version of 2B with no skirt, with other motions and decorations as well.”

Lee assures that it’ll be just a few months before the Nier: Automata collaboration comes to The First Descendant, even if Season 3 is more of a priority. As for The First Descendant’s next major overhaul, director Minseok Joo recently admitted in an open letter that “there’s not much to do” in the game right now.

Nexon does have a plan for the game’s future, though. Instead of focusing on smaller updates, the team is putting almost all of its effort into Season 3, to make it “stronger and more complete.”

  • Fortnite Galactic Battle Roadmap: All Star Wars Content Coming in Chapter 6 Season 3

Fortnite Galactic Battle Roadmap: All Star Wars Content Coming in Chapter 6 Season 3

With Chapter Six, Season Three, Fortnite is reliving the thrill of the Galactic Battle with Star Wars as its central theme. Despite being a short season, popular characters from the franchise are expected to arrive throughout the month-long celebrations.

Epic Games has finally revealed the roadmap for this season, including all the characters and the weapons that will arrive over the next few weeks.

What to Expect in the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 Galactic Battle Roadmap

Galactic Battle is expected to be the shortest season so far, coming to a close in a little over a month. Here’s what Epic Games is adding to the island in the forthcoming updates:

    May 8

    • Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia skins will make it to the Item shop
    • Mace Windu Holograms will give you the Purple Lightsaber and teach you the Force Pull ability.
    • Darth Maul Holograms will give you the Red Lightsaber and teach you the Force Throw ability.

    May 15

    • Chewbacca is set to make a comeback to the island along with the Wookie Bowcaster and the CA-87 Jawa Scatter Blaster.

    May 22

    • Mandalorian NPCs will join the battle. You will be able to recruit a Heavy, Scout, Supply, or Medic Mandalorian to your team.

    May 29

    • You finally get to use a Star Destroyer in Fortnite during the Galactic Battle season. A portal to the control room will spawn in every match. In the control room, you take control of the turbolaser and obliterate your enemies.

    June 7

    • This is the final showdown of the season and will include an in-game narrative live event where you go up against Emperor Palpatine. This could likely be followed by a downtime, leading into the new season.

Epic Games announcing the roadmap for Fortnite Chapter Six, Season Three Galactic Battle so early makes it unlikely that it will be extended or the schedule will change. We’ll be sure to update this page with more information if they announce any changes.
