Destiny 2 dev apologizes for missing details in The Edge of Fate patch notes

Bungie has apologized for the missing information in its Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate patch notes, and promised that it’s trying to get these details out as soon as possible. Players are reporting plenty changes that need to be addressed in the game, which they’ve had to end up guessing at due to a lack of official confirmation. There’s no exact timeframe for when Bungie will get the info out just yet, but the team at least assures that it never intentionally brings “stealth nerfs” to the game.

On Tuesday July 15, Bungie released the Destiny 2 update 9.0.0.1 patch notes. These were some of the biggest the studio has ever published, covering The Edge of Fate expansion, new Portal feature, Seasonal Hub, gear changes, and more. One of the best FPS games on PC has completely changed, and the patch notes need to fully reflect that.

That said, players have been noticing that the notes don’t completely show some of the free Steam game‘s biggest alterations. So the community has been making lists of what’s different in the game, especially around the Warlock Destiny 2 class. That’s why principal communications manager Dylan ‘dmg 04’ Gafner is addressing the missing patch notes, and outlining what Bungie plans to do.

“For the last few days, teams have been reviewing player reports and auditing changes to identify gaps in our patch notes article. We’re looking to get details out ASAP on the missed notes, and seriously – many apologies here,” Gafner writes.

“I’ve said it before, but we never intend to ship ‘stealth nerfs’ in Destiny 2. I understand this has happened a few times before, too – and it stands to show that a few of our processes need improvement. We would be completely out of our minds if we thought we could slip something under the rug without players noticing. We’re committed to clear and honest comms, and never wish to deviate from that. This was one of (if not the) longest patch notes submissions we’ve had, and while we hoped we had every bullet buttoned up, we fully acknowledge we missed on some big ones here.

“I don’t have a specific timeline yet on when we’ll get the exacts out. Warlock changes are a big one, but there’s more we’ll be getting straightened out too. Some exotic ammo backpack changes were also not detailed enough – we had notes on how ammo was changing all up with a broad rebalancing line, but no specific bullets for things like Queenbreaker.”

Destiny 2 Edge of Fate missing patch notes

From what I’m seeing online, The Edge of Fate and Destiny 2’s systematic changes have split the community. Some find the Portal quite messy, for example, but I appreciate how it breaks up the PvE and PvP activities you can do. I think the newest expansion makes now the ideal time to jump in, even if the game can still be a nightmare to navigate at times. If you want to dive in now, we’ve got the cheapest deal for The Edge of Fate we could find online.

  • Subnautica 2 dev attempts to reassure fans after controversial leadership swap

Subnautica 2 dev attempts to reassure fans after controversial leadership swap

Of all the upcoming survival games we know about, Subnautica 2 is right up there as one of the most anticipated. There’s been a lot of excitement for a new underwater adventure, this time with full co-op support so you can explore alien seas with a friend. This week, that excitement has faded and been replaced with concern and anger after Krafton, the game’s publisher and owner of developer Unknown Worlds, removed the studio’s co-founders and president, replacing them with a new CEO. After widespread outcry, and even calls for a boycott of the game, Unknown Worlds has followed this news up with a statement reassuring fans that the vision for Subnautica 2 remained unchanged and that no extra monetization was being added to the game.

Unknown Worlds’ previous leadership team – Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland, and Max McGuire – were instrumental in shaping the vision and delivering the original Subnautica – one of the best survival games ever, in our view. They’ve been replaced by Steve Papoutsis, who was most recently the CEO of Striking Distance, the developer behind Dead Space-esque horror game The Callisto Protocol. Krafton says it tried to find a way to keep the departing trio involved in the development of Subnautica 2, but those attempts were clearly unsuccessful.

No explicit reason was given for Gill, Cleveland, and McGuire’s departure, but the wording of Krafton’s statement suggests that Subnautica 2 was potentially failing to meet some internal development goals.

“As part of its oversight, Krafton is committed to achieving regular milestones to assess progress across its creative studios. These reviews, based on clearly defined metrics and targets, will help ensure that games meet both creative and quality standards. This process is essential to delivering the right game at the right time. Unknown Worlds’ new leadership fully supports this process and is committed to meeting player expectations.”

This decision went over terribly with fans of the series. While it took more than three people to create the original Subnautica, the sudden removal of these key figures is concerning and unsettling. The community’s anger has certainly been made clear on forums and social media – one popular thread on the game’s subreddit is titled “Subnatuica’s soul has just been ripped out,” while another calls for a boycott of the game and demands players unwishlist on Steam. Subnautica 2 remains the second most-wishlisted game on Valve’s platform, at the time of writing, with only Hollow Knight Silksong above it.

Seeing this outcry, Unknown Worlds has released a statement to try and reassure fans that this change in leadership is not going to affect the initial vision of the game. “When it comes to Subnautica 2, the team that has been working on the game day-to-day over the last few years remains completely unchanged. That team includes veterans of the Subnautica series, dating back to the earliest days of the original Subnautica, to the many incredible and talented developers who came aboard to help us bring our vision for Subnautica 2 to life.”

The statement also debunks some speculation from fans that the change in leadership occurred because the old team was resistant to putting additional monetization into Subnautica 2. “Nothing has changed with how the game is structured. It will remain a single-player first experience, with optional co-operative multiplayer. No subscriptions. No loot boxes. No battle pass. No microtransactions.”

It’s a pretty definitive statement that’ll reassure fans on the gameplay front, but the entire post (and Krafton’s initial announcement) fails to explain why such a drastic decision was made so near to the Subnautica 2 release date – the game is set to drop in early access before the end of this year. Players certainly want answers, and I think a lot of the outrage could’ve been avoided if Krafton clearly provided them.

  • Vampire Survivors dev is publishing a $4 action game, and it’s out on Steam now

Vampire Survivors dev is publishing a $4 action game, and it’s out on Steam now

Since it launched in 2021, Vampire Survivors cannot be stopped. Poncle’s phenomenal bullet hell roguelike is one of the most successful indies on Steam, amassing a 98% positive user rating from nearly 240,000 reviews across its lifetime. That’s for good reason, too, as not only is the core experience infinitely replayable, but a collection of updates and DLC have vastly expanded what’s on offer. Vampire Survivors is easily one of the best value propositions available on PC today, and now Poncle has another one for you. The studio is publishing the incredibly vibrant and kinetic Berserk or Die, which has a truly bizarre control scheme, and it’s available right now.

You’re the last soldier left on the battlefield, and with enemies approaching from all sides, you’ve got one job: survive. Set on a gorgeous 2D plane, that’s the core premise of Berserk or Die from Nao Games, a new action indie game all about chaining together flashy moves.

    YouTube Thumbnail

This isn’t like Castlevania, Contra, Ninja Gaiden, or any manner of classic platformer, though, because in Berserk or Die, you can only move by attacking. Hitting the left or right side of your keyboard attacks in that direction, and the more keys you press at once, the wilder and more powerful your moves. That’s right, you’re encouraged to smash your keyboard to bits with as big a strike as possible. Once you’ve obliterated enough enemies your special gauge will fill up, and you can then shake your mouse and unleash a move that’ll wipe through all the enemies on the screen.

With multiple characters to choose from, and an array of weapons to equip them with, you’ll have more than enough ways to keep gameplay feeling fresh. If you manage to survive until nightfall, you can then visit a lone peddler to sell your wares, heal your wounds, and buy upgrades. You’ll do all this to a soundtrack from Vampire Survivors composer Filippo Vicarelli, too, so you just know it’s going to get your blood pumping.

    Berserk or Die out now

“Nao Games shares the Poncle spirit of making games that are immediately accessible, affordable, and a bit out of the ordinary; for fun.” Poncle’s Luca Galante says. “When I first met Shibata-san and played Berserk or Die, I knew this was a game that deserved to be seen and played by more people. I’m really happy we got to support Shibata-san and hopefully make that happen.”

Berserk or Die is available on Steam right now, for $3.99 / £2.99. Just head here.

  • Helldivers 2 dev says it will call “100%” of the shots on its next game

Helldivers 2 dev says it will call “100%” of the shots on its next game

With Helldivers 2 still going strong, despite having to navigate some difficult moments since its launch last year, the top dog at developer Arrowhead has revealed that it is now exploring some “cool concepts” for its next game, which will also be “100%” funded by the Swedish studio. This confirms that Arrowhead won’t be continuing its partnership with Sony and Playstation for its next project, even though “there would be no Helldivers if it wasn’t for them.”

Helldivers 2 is a brilliant and massively successful co-op game, and the partnership between Arrowhead and Playstation has, on the whole, worked out a treat. From Arrowhead’s perspective, the Playstation marketing machine and backing helped elevate Helldivers 2 to a place it maybe wouldn’t have gotten to without it. From Sony’s side, having Helldivers 2 in its slate helped spare its blushes in what was a rough time for its live service endeavors.

However, it has caused some stumbling blocks – most notably the infamous review bombing that occurred after Sony tried to force Steam players into creating and linking Playstation account, something that was not only disliked but saw the game delisted from Valve’s storefront in dozens of countries due to them not having PSN support. This low point has fueled a narrative in some circles that Arrowhead would’ve been better off without Sony. But even though the studio’s head honcho has today confirmed it won’t be partnering with Sony (or anyone else, for that matter) in the development of its next game, it remains full of praise and gratitude.

As was spotted by Forbes, a post in the Helldivers 2 Discord server by CEO Shams Jorjani reads: “The wonderful thing is that thanks to the amazing support of you fine people Arrowhead’s future is quite bright and we have the freedom to explore some really cool concepts that we couldn’t have otherwise. Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you.” He adds that Arrowhead’s next game “is 100% funded by ourselves so we’ll call 100% of those shots.”

Making clear his admiration for Sony, Jorjani also says that “Playstation are great. There would be no Helldivers if it wasn’t for them. We’re open to working with them again in the future. They are incredibly game/dev oriented. Solid partners. And this is me just saying it like it is. Not blowing smoke up their asses.”

I’m excited to see what Arrowhead can do outside of the Helldivers universe, which I’m guessing is the direction it’s going in seeing as Sony isn’t on board for its next game. It’s shown it’s adept at building amazing, dynamic game worlds, so I could certainly see it tapping into that even more for future projects. Alternatively, given that Jorjani talks of having real “freedom” now, it could be something completely unexpected and unlike anything it’s done before.

  • Oblivion Remaster “changes nothing” for giant fan remake Skyblivion, dev says

Oblivion Remaster “changes nothing” for giant fan remake Skyblivion, dev says

2025 is, to my delight, the year of Oblivion. Not only is the long-rumored Oblivion remaster seemingly just days away, but the equally impressive Skyblivion mod – which brings all of Cyrodiil into Skyrim – is out this year as well. With two versions of Bethesda’s 2006 classic at our fingertips, it’s natural to assume that they might come into competition with each other. Skyblivion’s project lead doesn’t feel that way, though, making it clear that an imminent official remaster “changes nothing” for them.

Rumors of an official The Elder Scrolls Oblivion remaster have reached a fever pitch recently. After weeks of insiders claiming it’s real, several screenshots and promotional images of the project have leaked from the website of developer Virtuos, suggesting it’s been working with Bethesda for some time. There’s still no launch date for Oblivion Remastered, but reputable sources say it will be very soon.

    YouTube Thumbnail

Where does Bethesda’s official remaster leave Skyblivion, then? According to an update from the modding team back in January, we should be playing its own take on Cyrodiil sometime this year. There’s still work to be done and the team needs help, but the finish line is close.

Now, with the Virtuos leak of Oblivion Remastered, Skyblivion’s project lead ‘Rebelzize’ is weighing in on how the two versions can co-exist. After initially replying “uh-oh” to news of the game, they clarified their position:

“To be clear this changes nothing for me. This always was a passion project and still is until the end. For the community it’s a win-win as you get twice the amount of Oblivion this year. All love and no hate towards the people who made the official remaster.”

With so much Oblivion on the way, we’re about to be spoilt for choice. Bethesda and Virtuos’ version is likely coming out in April, and the Skyblivion modding team still has plans for launch sometime in 2025.

If you just can’t wait to dive into any new version of Oblivion, we’ve got all the best games like Skyrim you can check out today. Otherwise, dive into the best open-world games out now.
