After the success of College Football’s return, now EA Sports is reanimating College Basketball

An image of a basketball with an EA Sports logo embossed on it

The triumphant return of EA Sports’ College Football last year after a nearly two-decade hiatus has emboldened Electronic Arts to spread its wings further for the x26 titles. Now, news has landed that not only will we be getting College Football 26 but College Basketball will be making a return to our screens, some 16 years after we last saw the title.

In that time, 2K Games has been allowed to hoover up the basketball licences and have a free run at any fans of the sport that may have a console in the corner of the room. Now, with the return of College Basketball, Electronic Arts has a competing proposition that does not require the NBA license to be successful. Clever, clever.

The return of College Basketball to the stable completes EA Sports’ set of American sports once more, with College Football/Madden and NHL all sitting as stablemates. Other than the cartoon-like Super Mega Baseball, the company has never really dipped its toes into the diamond, but the return of basketball will shake things up in the world of sports games for sure.

Why college hoops matters Again for EA

A single post on the EA Sports X account shared the news, stating, “Bring the Madness. Let’s run it back. #CBB #ItsInTheGame”

With 2K seemingly securing the rights to the NBA for the foreseeable future, a college basketball game, or a cartoon-like Super Mega Basketball were the only real ways back into the sport for EA – although we would definitely kill for another version of NBA Street, even if it didn’t have the NBA licence.

With the general consensus that the Madden franchise needs some revigorating, it is interesting that EA Sports has decided that going all in on college athletes provides a new niche to attach itself to. No news on release dates and times yet, but we will bring those to you when more becomes clear.

  • How many cards can Restorative Burst return?

    Restorative Burst says

Return up to two target creature, land, and/or planeswalker cards from your graveyard to your hand. Each player gains 4 life. Exile Restorative Burst.

I’m questioning if that means 2 or 6 possible returns because in my mind if it said

Return target creature, land and planeswalker….

It would definitely be one of all 3. So the addition of "up to 2" and "and/or" to me feels like its the option to return anything from one of one of them which would the the reason for or, to 2 of each of them which would be the reason for and.

Is this right? I feel that’s a lot to pay for only 2 cards.

  • Return a Copy of a Card to a Hand

Return a Copy of a Card to a Hand

When a copy of a card is created, can that copy be returned to it’s owner’s hand?

I’m specifically looking at the interaction between Arcane Bombardment and Narset’s Reversal.
    Arcane Bombardment mtg Card

When an instant or sorcery card is exiled by Arcane Bombardment, it says specifically that you "copy each card exiled with Arcane Bombardment". I know spells only exist on the stack, but this isn’t a copy of a spell, but a copy of the card itself.

    Narset's Reversal mtg card

This says that I copy the spell, and return the card to the owner’s hand. Since Arcane bombardment specifically says that I copy the card, would I be able to return a copied spell card I cast with arcane bombardment to my hand, if I used Narset’s Reversal on my own card.

I know that there are similar questions, but all of them seem to address copies of spells, which I know only exist on the stack. I haven’t seen any address a copy of a card. I also looked over the rules around copying, but didn’t find much about "copy of a card". I know this is different than duplicating, though I admit I’m not 100% sure of the difference, other than to differentiate certain effects.

  • the return of the megagame — The Treehouse

the return of the megagame — The Treehouse

Once upon a time (well, in September 2022, actually), to celebrate The Treehouse’s fifth birthday, we had our first go at running a Megagame. You can find out all about what happened during our first run of Watch the Skies, and get an overview of what on Earth (and off Earth) it actually is, in our previous blog post here.

We came away from the previous experience exhausted, exhilarated, and bubbling with ideas for what we wanted to do ‘next time’. Perhaps, in retrospect, we had TOO MANY ideas for tweaks and changes, because it then took us over a year to get our ducks into anything resembling a row and announce the next game. But finally, the day dawned… our second run of Watch the Skies took place on Friday 26th January, and once again, it was a TOTAL BLAST.

This time, a reasonable proportion of those in attendance had played the game before, but no problem! We had plenty of plot twists and new mechanics the keep things fresh, not to mention some nifty new game components, and even a brand new type of team in the mix. Read on for some of the headline changes in this year’s game, some actual news headlines from the in-game newspaper, and lots of pictures to give you a feel for what went down.
