    How to use the new feature to test DPS and builds


    Destiny 2 players have been begging for a shooting range to test their builds ever since the Tribute Hall was removed back in Shadowkeep. Bungie has finally delivered in The Edge of Fate. It doesn’t disappoint either, offering everything you could want from such a feature, allowing you to damage test with your various builds to get just the right damage and rotations. 

    While impressive, the Shooting Range can be a little overwhelming at first. There’s a lot to it, and learning how to make the most of it all is essential to ensure you’re optimising all the information you can glean from it. However, if you can master it, it will make you an infinitely better player, so it’s well worth understanding. Here’s everything you need to know.

    Rally Flag

    The first thing you’ll want to do is rally at the flag found on the right side of the Shooting Range. Doing so will refresh your abilities and give you max ammo for all of your weapons. Using this does not consume any Raid Banners, so feel free to rally as many times as you want.

    Prismatic Wellspring

    While rallying resupplies almost everything, it won’t give you Transcendence. For that, you’ll need to stand in the Prismatic Wellspring on the left of the entrance to build up both Darkness and Light energy.

    This can be utilized on both Prismatic builds and other subclasses, but the energy will decay rapidly unless you are using Prismatic. After entering Transcendence, you deal 5% more damage, take 20% less damage, gain access to a class-specific grenade, and have significantly increased ability regen.

    Self-damaging Laser

    Directly opposite the Flag Rally, you’ll find a self-damaging laser that can be used to lower your health quickly. This is useful for testing the effects of perks or Exotics that are only relevant when you have reduced health, like Heal Clip and Mechaneer’s Tricksleeves.

    Enemy Factions

    To the left of the Shooting Range, you’ll see a board with the symbols of eight different enemy factions. Shooting these symbols will spawn enemies from that faction, allowing you to test out your build against one of the following: Cabal, Dread, Fallen, Hive, Scorn, Taken, Vanguard Training, and Vex.

    Notably, the bottom right symbol spawns Target Frames that have infinite health. This is ideal for DPS testing, as they can never die regardless of how much damage you deal. In contrast, most other enemy types have limited health and won’t be much use for figuring out what DPS rotation works best.

    Enemy Options

    To the right of the Shooting Range, you’ll see a different board with three symbols. Activating these will trigger various effects, with the first symbol resetting your DPS Scoreboard, the second symbol activating enemy behaviour, and the third symbol clearing all combatants from the range.

    Combatant Selection

    There are five large plinths scattered throughout the Shooting Range that can be used to spawn specific types of enemies. To use these, interact with them after choosing any Enemy Faction except for Vanguard Training. For example, you could select Vex and then use these plinths to spawn in Goblins, Minotaurs, or Wyverns.

    Not only does this let you test out your build against a range of combatants, but your damage dealt also takes into account each enemy’s unique traits. For example, most bosses take around 30% less damage from weapons, which is accurately reflected in the Shooting Range.

    DPS Scoreboards

    Hanging above the Shooting Range, there is a large scoreboard that tracks damage per second (DPS) and total damage (DMG). This is one of the most important features in this area, as it allows you to test and compare the potency of different builds, weapons, and perks against one another.

    Additionally, there are six smaller boards found below the large board. These track DPS and DMG for up to six different Guardians in the Shooting Range. This is convenient for Fireteams looking to test their team damage and the specific impact of various buffs and debuffs that are more team-oriented.

    Display Distance on Target

    This panel is found on the far left of the Shooting Range and can be toggled to show how far away an enemy is when you aim at them. The main use for this is for testing PvP weapons, as understanding damage fall-off in the Crucible is essential to becoming a better player.

    Single Combatant

    This panel is also found on the left of the Shooting Range, and activating it spawns in a single combatant of your choosing. More specifically, the enemy that spawns will always match the Enemy Faction and Combatant Selection previously set.

    Combatant Wave

    Found on the right-hand side of the Shooting Range, this panel spawns in a wave of combatants of your choosing. Much like the Single Combatant panel, the enemies that spawn will match the Enemy Faction and Combatant Selection previously set.

    Champion Combatant

    This panel is located on the far right of the Shooting Range, and activating it will spawn a Champion based on whatever Enemy Faction is selected. Interacting with this panel multiple times cycles between Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable Champions, with each faction having access to at least two of these.

    More so than anything else, this can be used to figure out exactly what stuns you have access to on a given build. It’s especially handy for figuring out if Anti-Champion artifact mods work with whatever Exotic or weapon you want to use, which isn’t always as obvious as you would think.

    Is the Shooting Range free for everyone?

    Yes. The Shooting Range is available to all players, whether they have paid for any content or not. It exists in the Tower and is selectable through that menu.

    Is this the first Shooting Range in Destiny 2?

    Sort of. Back in Season of Oppulance, there was the Tribute Hall, which had some use as a Shooting Range. This is a far more extensive feature now, though.

    When will the next expansion launch?

    After The Edge of Fate, the next expansion, Renegades, is expected to launch on December 2, 2025.

    GTA Online update hints that a long-requested feature may arrive before GTA 6


    Sure, GTA 5 and GTA Online have been with us for years now, with dozens of big updates adding new features and content to the Los Santos sandbox. However, there are still some highly-requested things that Rockstar hasn’t got around to implementing. One such feature is mansions – while lavish penthouse apartments are all well and good, players have long wanted massive, decadent homes to symbolize the millions (or sometimes billions) of dollars they’ve accrued over the years. Well, today’s latest major update to GTA Online may be teasing the addition of mansions, hopefully just in the nick of time before GTA 6 arrives.

    It’s been going strong for well over a decade, but GTA Online’s days appear to be numbered. While Rockstar hasn’t outlined its plans for its multiplayer experience once the GTA 6 release date arrives, it feels highly likely that a new and improved version of GTA Online, set in the new location of Leonida, will be rolled out. This means that, including today’s latest major update to the GTA 5 version, there’s maybe just a couple of big content drops in Online left before GTA 6 hits.

    The new Money Fronts update delivers plenty. There’s a money laundering system that gives you access to more businesses: a car wash, the Smoke on the Water cannabis store, and Higgins Helitours. Consider your business empire expanded. Local money laundering kingpin Mr Faber also has some fresh missions for you to complete, and there are several new vehicles to add to your collection.

    It’s a solid update, but what’s even more exciting is a potential teaser that’s been datamined from its code.

    As was initially uncovered by ‘floorball’ and shared by the likes of notable GTA news account ‘Tez2,’ the update hints that future Mr Faber missions will involve helping a “client with their luxury property development.” Elsewhere, code for a notification message has been found that reads: “You have earned an exclusive discount on a future property purchase with Prix Luxury Real Estate. They will be in contact again soon when properties become available.”

    While this is nowhere near absolute confirmation that mansions will be coming to GTA Online soon, it is highly suggestive that they will be. At the very least, it appears some form of new, high-end residential property will be purchasable after helping out Mr Faber’s client. After years of apartments, it would be nice for this to be a totally new kind of residence, and a mansion would certainly fit both the “luxury” description and the shady business mogul fantasy of GTA Online.

    From what I’m seeing online, these luxury property missions aren’t among the Mr Faber missions that are currently live. So, that means that they’ll either arrive at some point over the next few months, or could be added (along with the properties themselves) in GTA Online’s December major update. GTA Online updates are on a six-month cycle, so this would (barring any more delays) potentially be the last big content drop for GTA 5 Online before GTA 6 arrives in May next year. It would certainly be a way to finish with a flourish, as players have been requesting this for a very long time.

    Another theory is that this could be teasing a feature in GTA 6 Online itself. Completing Mr Faber’s missions in GTA 5 could then get you a discount for a mansion in GTA 6. Given that a mansion featured as your base of operations in GTA Vice City’s story, and GTA 6 will of course be returning to that iconic location, it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

    As mentioned, none of this is officially confirmed just yet, and even though it’s been datamined from GTA 5, we shouldn’t jump to definite conclusions.

    Murderbot’s TV adaption will feature major changes. I talked to the creators about how those decisions were made


    The Murderbot Diaries, Martha Wells’ popular series of darkly comedic science-fiction books, are coming to Apple TV+ in the form of a new series starring Alexander Skarsgård and created/written/directed by Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz. As with any adaptation, however, some pretty big changes are being made, and after watching the series, I wanted to know why. So when I got the chance to ask the creators, I did just that.

    For anyone who has read the first Murderbot novella, All Systems Red, you know that the book is both short and yet somehow packed full of wonderful story moments and character traits. The story of Murderbot, a hacked rogue security bot who just wants to be left alone to watch TV shows but ends up being a hero, should fit perfectly into the length for a TV series or film, leading to the idea that the Weitz brothers had the opposite challenge of most adaptations. Whereas most require changes by cutting down the storyline, Murderbot needed fleshing out. Of course, any of those changes went through Wells first, and it was important to respect the source material.

    “I think everything that’s in the book is in the show basically,” explained Paul Weitz. “We early on got in touch with Martha Wells kind of as fans and, so there are things that are added to the story, sort of like filling in the cracks, but anytime that we had an idea like that, we would call up Martha and say, ‘Hey, here’s what we’re thinking of, what do you think?’ And she’d either say, ‘Oh, that’s a cool idea’ or ‘Well, maybe think about this instead. That was a huge, huge relief.

    “I think that part of the thing for us was never feeling like we were like we were padding stuff,” he continued as he explained why they made the changes they did.

    To be clear, the series follows the first book’s story as a whole and does an incredible job adapting the tone and themes of the first novella, but there are a few major key moments that are different. This includes a very sudden and violent moment that’s a major change from the story. The Weitzs said they made such a big, impactful change to help maintain the tone of the books.

    “Well, one thing that Alexander was very conscious of, even more so in a way than we were, was that you don’t want things to thaw completely,” Chris Weitz said when discussing the change. “Possibly ever, but even to appear to thaw until the very end. So I think at the very point at which everybody’s thinking, ‘Oh, it might not want to look at us or give us a hug, but it’s part of the team.’ Murderbot does something which reminds everyone that it’s a being that has done violence and that that’s part of their experience and their DNA.”

    It wasn’t just the storyline of Murderbot that needed to be tweaked, however. The directors felt they should dive deeper into the lives of the rest of the characters, with particular attention given to fleshing out Garathin, who is played by David Dastmalchian.

    “Part of it, in a way, was looking at the characters in the book, which might not have much said about them, and being like, ‘OK, these people exist, so why are they behaving this way? Why are they doing this?’” explained Paul Weitz.

    “Doing a lot of work on that,” Chris Weitz commented. “Like, Garathin has a backstory in this, but we checked with Martha whether that was cool, and we also checked with David (Dastmalchian) whether that was cool because it’s trading on a little of his personal, you know, his personal experience. Just playing with the characters with utter respect and belief that they actually exist. (The characters) act in worthy ways, but they have neuroses, they have idiosyncrasies, and that was part of the interest (making changes).”

    Murderbot will premiere on Apple TV+ on May 16.
