  • Blending Vampire Survivors and Diablo, Skull Horde has a brand new demo

Blending Vampire Survivors and Diablo, Skull Horde has a brand new demo

Practically a modern classic, Vampire Survivors has inspired countless imitators. But the upcoming Skull Horde actually looks like a novel take on its roguelike inspiration. While in Vampire Survivors you gain new abilities to upgrade your avatar, in Skull Horde you’ll build a massive army of fellow skeletons and lead them to victory through a dank dungeon. The game has an earnest and goofy tone, like a Tales from the Crypt episode that hits just right. You can give the game a try right now.

As for how Skull Horde plays, each run will start in a new procedurally generated dungeon and you’ll control your army’s route through that dungeon. However, much like Vampire Survivors, you won’t control how your army acts and moves. Instead, you’ll select upgrades, purchase units, and pick up loot to improve your forces. You can also unlock perks that you’ll select at the beginning of the run, giving you powerful abilities and shaping your strategy for that run. But Skull Horde has some subtleties too. Staying longer on any floor of a dungeon can help you find more loot and money, but your enemies also grow more powerful.

However, what makes Skull Horde really sing is its aesthetics. Its pixel sprites are detailed, but also readable at a glance. Watching armies of bone battle armies of flesh has the same aesthetic appeal as any of the best RTS games. A crunchy, guitar-heavy soundtrack completes the vibe.

  • Does a card have a keyword if it has the same effect as said keyword?

I was looking at Contingency Plan and found the effect surprisingly similar to the keyword Surveil. To compare, first the wording of Contingency Plan and then the wording of the Surveil keyword:

Look at the top five cards of your library. Put any number of them into your graveyard and the rest back on top of your library in any order.

    And

701.41a To “surveil N” means to look at the top N cards of your library, then put any number of them into your graveyard and the rest on top of your library in any order.

They quite clearly are the same, so can I assume the card states “Surveil 5” instead? And if so, does it trigger abilities which state “Whenever you surveil …”?

  • Brutal city builder Frostpunk 2 has dropped to its lowest price yet

Brutal city builder Frostpunk 2 has dropped to its lowest price yet

If you enjoy a city builder with a challenge, this deal is for you. Fanatical has discounted Frostpunk 2, the sequel to the highly acclaimed strategy survival game, to its lowest price yet. Right now, you can pick up the Standard and Deluxe Editions of this brilliantly brutal city builder at a huge discount – less than a year after its release! But you’d better act fast if you want this discount, as it’s only available for a few days.

Frostpunk 2 is easily one of the best city-building games on PC. The long-awaited sequel to 11 Bit Studios’ 2018 hit survival game Frostpunk, Frostpunk 2 tasks you with developing and expanding the city of New London following an apocalyptic blizzard that has killed most of Earth’s population and left survivors in a never-ending winter. It’s up to you, as the Steward, to evolve your settlement, and (most importantly) ensure your civilization survives and, hopefully, thrives in this hostile world.

You don’t need to have played Frostpunk to get to grips with its sequel. While Frostpunk 2 sees the return (and streamlining) of many of the first game’s systems, like the need to keep your city’s massive heat generator sufficiently fueled and to generally keep your citizens warm, fed, and sheltered, some new ones make this already tough game even more challenging.

You now have a council to appease (or ignore), which consists of faction delegates who each have their own view on how to run the city. So, rather than simply passing laws as you please, each law must be proposed and voted on by the council before it can be enacted. Keeping all the factions happy is nearly impossible, so it’s up to you to balance their varying wishes, your morals, and what you think is best for your people.

The addition of the council gives this strategy game more political focus than its predecessor and makes the already difficult choices you’re regularly presented with even tougher. In PCGamesN’s Frostpunk 2 review, Reid McCarter said Frostpunk 2 is “a game that stands out in the strategy genre for the narrative consideration that gives every one of its choices so much texture.”

If you’re up to the challenge, you’re in luck, as Frostpunk 2 is now at its lowest price yet. Fanatical has slashed 45% off the Standard Edition of Frostpunk 2, dropping the price from $44.99 / £37.99 to just $24.74 / £20.89.

If you want the definitive Frostpunk 2 experience, you can also pick up the Deluxe Edition for a 40% discount, dropping the price from $74.99 / £62.99 to $44.99 / £37.79. This deal offers the best value, as it drops the price of the Deluxe Edition to the usual price of the Standard Edition. For that price tag, you get a heap of extra content, including three DLCs, the Captain’s Hall exclusive in-game item, the Warm Flesh novella, and a digital artbook and soundtrack.

You only have until Wednesday, May 14, 2025 to grab this cool discount, so take advantage of this deal while you can. After this, there’s no telling how long it will be until the price comes down again.

  • Forget the Lucky 38, an Oblivion Remastered modder has added a swanky penthouse suite to the Imperial City’s tallest tower, delivering the best view in Cyrodiil

Forget the Lucky 38, an Oblivion Remastered modder has added a swanky penthouse suite to the Imperial City’s tallest tower, delivering the best view in Cyrodiil

Yep, an Oblivion Remastered modder has done the thing all of us have secretly wanted for years. They’ve stuck a penthouse at the summit of the Imperial City’s White-Gold Tower, so you can live far above the potato-faced NPC masses and take in the views like a Cyrodiilic and pre-computer version of New Vegas‘ Mr House.

As player home mods go, it’s possibly the least subtle bit of design placement I’ve ever seen, but let’s face it, you didn’t splash out for an remaster with gorgeous UE5 visuals not to be able to take in a stunning panorama of central Cyrodiil from your character’s digs.

The modder behind this goes by RBDinteractive, and their ‘Champion Penthouse‘ is designed to finally deliver a reward for ending the Oblivion Crisis and saving the entire world that isn’t just some admittedly cool armour you might not even end up using.

The concept’s very similar to a classic Oblivion mod – Vince Bly’s ‘Top of the World‘. Based on the fact RBDinteractive’s credited the fix and port script for OG Oblivion mods that modder Haphestia (whom we’ve recently interviewed about Oblivion Remastered modding) has developed for the remaster, it looks like there’s even a chance one could be loosely based on the other.

Though, there are plenty of differences, with Top of the World’s square wooden room atop the tower could seemingly only be fast-travelled to, while the Champion Penthouse is a rounded stone suite that slightly more closely matches the design of the tower itself, and can be gotten to via a ladder found to the right when you enter at ground level.

The furnishings and architecture are different, but the view’s the same breathtaking one that’s prompted both modders to decide to perch a house that’s open to Cyrodiil’s wider worldspace here, so you can take in the views from any angle in all their glory.

It’s worth noting that as for right now the Champion’s Penthouse is accessible at any time for free, since it’s free and there’s no quest attached, but RBDinteractive’s suggested that might change soon. “I’m gonna try to learn how to edit quests and [have] homes be purchased,” they wrote in the mod’s comments section, “I’ll let you know if I get it working. My idea would be to get the penthouse when you beat the main quest, because everyone refers to you as Champion.”

So, there you go. A house ideal for those who love nice views, and the literal worst nightmare of those who’re afraid of heights. Hey, you’ve fought your way through legions of Daedra pouring out of a not-quite-hell, surely you can handle the terror of knowing you might plummet to your death if you sleepwalk ten feet.

  • Wahey, GTA 6 has finally gotten a trailer 2, and you can watch it here

Wahey, GTA 6 has finally gotten a trailer 2, and you can watch it here

GTA 6 has just gotten a second trailer. Yep, I repeat, trailer two is here, this is not a drill.

Of course, it does come after the game’s release was delayed last week. After all the speculation it might be pushed back and Rockstar sticking to that vague Fall release window for ages, GTA 6‘ll be dropping on May 26, 2026.

    Watch on YouTube

You can check out our latest look at it above.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” Rockstar wrote in its Newswire post announcing the delay last week, “The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

This is a breaking story, so we’ll add more deets soon.

  • Sackboy has been removed from the PlayStation Productions intro sequence, so much for job sack-urity

Sackboy has been removed from the PlayStation Productions intro sequence, so much for job sack-urity

It’s rough out there, even for video game characters. It looks like Sackboy, from the beloved Little Big Planet series of games, has been removed from the PlayStation Productions intro sequence. This was discovered by Twitter user Radec who sat down to watch the Until Dawn movie, a horrific start to an already shocking movie.

Sackboy has been in a bit of a rough spell as of late, it’s safe to say. Media Molecule was hit by layoffs in late 2023, while Little Big Planet 3 had its servers turned off indefinitely last year, with years of community-created levels gone with the wind.

As such, Sackboy isn’t the star of the office like he used to be. A newer generation of Sony stars are in the office, and old man Sack has sort of been pushed to a desk in the corner of the room. With his face off the PlayStation Productions intro, it’s as if he’s been removed from the office entirely. His stuff in a cardboard box as he waits for a taxi. Or maybe it’s all in a big sack, who knows.

Upon hearing the news, folks were obviously upset. There’s a range of responses that sum up the final nail in Sackboy’s career coffin rather well, from usersr on Twitter called ‘LittleBigPlanet™ for the Playstation®3’ or what have you. I’d like to personally jump in here to say don’t lose hope just yet. Instead, you should wait to see if Sackboy gets dug up for an Adi Shankar adaptation.

Are you sad about Sackboy being thrown out into the street like this? I am. Let us know below, as well as whether you think Sackboy will every come back!

  • Putting a 3D, Australian spin on Stardew Valley, Dinkum has finally hit 1.0

Putting a 3D, Australian spin on Stardew Valley, Dinkum has finally hit 1.0

The cozy, rural life sim formula that the likes of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley have mastered continues to be the foundation for a steady stream of new games. All trying to tap into a more relaxing reality where fishing, farming, and flirting with your neighbors is all you have to worry about, they remain hugely popular. Dinkum, which puts an Australian spin on this core experience, has been building itself up in early access for quite some time now, but it’s now finally out in 1.0.

Just like Stardew Valley, Dinkum is the endeavor of just one developer – James Bendon – who’s been toiling away at the life game for many years. It launched in early access in 2022, but we were intrigued by it even earlier than that. It’s shown a lot of promise, and its 93% lifetime user score on Steam is a testament to that. So much promise, in fact, that Inzoi and Subnautica publisher Krafton has got behind it.

It’s set in a world inspired by Bendon’s homeland of Australia, so even though there are resources to gather, crops to grow, fish to net, and insects to catch, there will also be some typically dangerous Aussie animals to steer clear of. Or you can hunt and trap them, if you’ve got the right tools for the job.

Whereas Animal Crossing has you funneling repayments to a tight tanuki in your early hours, Dinkum gives you control of your town by not only letting you expand it to attract new residents, but charge them rent for staying there and earning a passive income alongside your farming, foraging, and other side hustles. Interior design fans will be pleased to hear that they’ll be catered for in Dinkum as well when it comes to home building and customization.

    YouTube Thumbnail

After years of updates, Dinkum has just received the biggest of them all – the update that pushes it into 1.0 – and it’s full of new features and improvements. The Creative Mode takes down pretty much all guardrails and restrictions, allowing you to free-build whatever you want, spawn in items, and change the time and weather. When it comes to putting guardrails back up so that you can make it a controlled co-op experience, there are loads of new island settings that will let you set custom permissions. The amount of stuff you can craft has also been expanded – Bendon says that you can now build two-seater planes that you can fly around your island and display cases for the bugs you catch.

Dinkum’s 1.0 update is now live, and if you want to try before you buy, a free Steam demo is available too.

  • Monster Hunter Wilds patch has stopped Nata from crashing your game, and your Hunter/Palico from sometimes not sounding like you expect them to

Monster Hunter Wilds patch has stopped Nata from crashing your game, and your Hunter/Palico from sometimes not sounding like you expect them to

Capcom has rolled out a fresh new update to all Monster Hunter Wilds players. The patch, version 1.010.01.00, follows on from the major release of Title Update 1, which arrived earlier this April.

The main point of this new patch is to fix some of the known issues and bugs introduced with TU1, and solve a couple of other issues that have been lingering there for a while.

The new Monster Hunter Wilds patch fixes the slightly hilarious bug that caused the game to crash when you spoke to Nata and specifically requested trading with Sekka. When the bug was first identified, Capcom asked players to just fire up the BBQ and wait before trying again. That is, thankfully, no longer necessary.

With many Wilds players now firmly in the endgame, a lot of the focus has now shifted to the newly-introduced Arena Quests. As more of those quests are played, however, an unusual bug kept popping up. The bug caused the Powercharm and Armorcharm to be added to your pouch whenever you decided to bring them to the quest, but that has now been fixed.

On the topic of Arena Quests, some require you to use specific weapons the game chooses for certain fights, but crafty players managed to break that and bring their own weapons – well, no more.

Switching over to the slightly bizarre and unusual bugs, certain cutscenes – in some cases – go rogue and decide not to respect the voice pitch settings you’ve chosen for your Hunter and Palico. So, if you’ve not been skipping cutscenes, and noticed that your pals sound different, this is why – though you thankfully won’t have to worry about that anymore.

Yes, sometimes your Palico sounds different. | Image credit: Capcom

That one might only break your immersion, but one other cutscene bug actually caused a progression block involved your Palico refusing to get on the Seikret to progress the story, which has now been fixed, too.

Patch 1.010.01.00 also brings a few other crash fixes caused by your choice of weapon and gear, alongside a fix to an issue that prevented players from being able to redo the Mizutsune assignment.

As with any new patch, however, there remains a list of known issues, which Capcom has outlined in this blog post. You should check that page if you run into any issues after installing the patch. Until then, our Monster Hunter Wilds guide remains your faithful companion.
